Lleida-Alguaire receives over five million euros in public-private investment.

The Minister of Territory and Sustainability, Damià Calvet, has estimated that Lleida-Alguaire Airport will receive over five million euros in public-private investments in the coming months. During a visit to this infrastructure, Calvet stated, “Between public and private investment, around 5.5 million euros will be invested in airport infrastructure at Lleida-Alguaire.”

The main investment initiative involves the construction of a 6,400 square meter hangar, capable of accommodating two Boeing 737 or Airbus 320 aircraft, or alternatively a Boeing 777 or Airbus 340. The construction project for this second hangar has already been tendered, with the aim of completing the design by summer and tendering the construction works for an estimated value of 2.7 million euros. “It will be the second largest hangar in Catalonia and the largest built in the last ten years,” explained Damià Calvet. Additionally, Aeroports de Catalunya, the public company managing the airport under the Ministry of Territory and Sustainability, will also tender works to expand the aircraft parking platform by 7,400 square meters, and to acquire a multipurpose hangar for industrial activities.

Regarding private investment, a noteworthy project is the expansion of the aircraft parking platform by Aeronpark and SERVITEC, covering an additional ten hectares. This expansion will increase their capacity from 15 to 50 aircraft,” added Damià Calvet. The planned investment by these companies amounts to two million euros. As explained by the Minister of Territory and Sustainability, Aeronpark and Servitec have received their first aircraft from the United States after being certified to perform maintenance and conservation operations. “We will now be able to accommodate aircraft from the United States, which opens us up to the world,” explained Damià Calvet.

In the coming months, there are also plans to strengthen training activities at Lleida-Alguaire Airport, both for pilots and workers involved in industrial maintenance and conservation of aircraft. “We aim to establish a powerful airport hub for industry and innovation,” noted the minister. In this regard, he highlighted some of the 2019 airport facility statistics, placing it within the top 20 in Spain in terms of operations.
