Recycling of a B747 Begins at ILD Airport
Lleida, Jan 27 – Servitec Aircraft Maintenance has started the dismantling process of a B747 Jumbo jet at the Aeronpark platform, located at Lleida-Alguaire Airport.
This type of recycling involves a “meticulous” programmed process of more than 1,000 components for subsequent reuse and recycling of non-commercializable remains.
Currently, Alguaire is hosting the preservation of up to 9 aircraft, along with the recycling of two other planes: a Boeing B747 Jumbo from Wamos Air and an Airbus A330 from Portuguese TAP.
Additionally, the Lleida airport is preserving 9 Boeing B737 Max aircraft from Icelandair and Norwegian Air, which involves the implementation of a preventive maintenance plan that allows for their full operational recovery once the modifications designed by the manufacturer and approved by regulatory authorities are carried out.
These activities, they explain, could transform Lleida-Alguaire Airport into “one of the main European clusters” for aircraft maintenance, thus “generating value, sustainable development, and creating quality jobs.”
In this regard, Miguel Martín, Servitec’s maintenance director, highlighted that Alguaire’s facilities stand out due to “an excellent location in southern Europe, availability of space, and a flexible and proactive management to facilitate the implementation of aeronautical projects at its facilities.”
